Druk path trek is bhutan’s most iconic short trek, bridging the valleys of Paro and Thimphu along the ancient wilderness trail. Typically spanning 5 days, this moderate, 54km journey is perfect for beginners and seasoned hikers.

You will climb through pristine forests of bluepine, fir, and blooming rhododendrons onto sweeping alpine ridges. The trail passes crystal-clear glacial lakes, encountering nomadic yak herders, and features the 13th century Phajoding Monastery. Reaching a high point of 4235m at Labana Pass, you will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the majestic Himalayas.

Day 01: Arrival at Paro International Airport

Welcome to Bhutan, the Land of the Thunder Dragon. Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, one of the world’s most spectacular mountain airports, you will be greeted by our representative. Enjoy the scenic drive into Paro Valley and transfer to your hotel.

After check-in, spend the rest of the day at leisure exploring the charming streets of Paro Town. Browse traditional handicraft shops, relax at local cafés, or simply soak in the peaceful atmosphere while preparing for your upcoming trekking adventure.

Overnight stay in Paro.

After an early breakfast, begin your hike to the iconic Paro Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest Monastery), Bhutan’s most sacred and recognizable landmark. Perched dramatically on a cliff approximately 900 metres above the Paro Valley, the monastery is believed to be the place where Guru Rinpoche flew on the back of a tigress and meditated, introducing Buddhism to Bhutan.

The hike takes approximately 5–6 hours round trip, passing through beautiful pine forests adorned with colourful prayer flags and offering spectacular views of the monastery and surrounding mountains.

Return to Paro in the afternoon and enjoy a well-deserved rest before your multi-day trek begins.

After breakfast, drive a short distance to Ta Dzong, the starting point of the Druk Path Trek. The trail gradually ascends through beautiful blue pine and alpine forests, offering stunning views of Paro Valley below.

As you gain elevation, the landscape changes to open meadows and mountain ridges before reaching the ruins of Jela Dzong, a historic fortress overlooking the surrounding valleys. On a clear day, enjoy panoramic views of Mount Jomolhari and other snow-capped Himalayan peaks.

Today’s trek follows scenic mountain ridges through forests of fir, rhododendron, and dwarf bamboo. The route offers magnificent views of the eastern Himalayas and expansive alpine landscapes.

Along the way, you may encounter nomadic yak herders tending their animals in the high-altitude pastures. The peaceful surroundings and fresh mountain air make this one of the most enjoyable sections of the trek.

Continue your journey through rolling alpine meadows before descending gently to the beautiful Jimilangtsho Lake, one of Bhutan’s most picturesque glacial lakes. Surrounded by rugged mountain scenery, the lake is renowned for its crystal-clear waters and giant trout.

The peaceful lakeside campsite provides an unforgettable setting to relax and enjoy the tranquillity of Bhutan’s pristine wilderness.

Today’s trek climbs steadily across alpine ridges and mountain passes before reaching Labana Pass (4,235m), the highest point of the Druk Path Trek. From here, weather permitting, enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the snow-covered Himalayan range.

The trail continues past several pristine alpine lakes before arriving at the peaceful campsite near Simkotra Tsho, another beautiful glacial lake surrounded by dramatic mountain scenery.

Walking Time: 5–6 hours

The final day of the trek begins with a gradual descent through alpine forests toward the historic Phajoding Monastery, one of Bhutan’s oldest and most important meditation centres dating back to the 13th century.

After visiting the monastery and enjoying panoramic views overlooking Thimphu Valley, continue descending through peaceful pine forests until reaching the road head, where your vehicle will be waiting.

Transfer to your hotel in Thimphu.

After breakfast, enjoy a scenic one-hour drive from Thimphu back to Paro International Airport for your onward flight.
